Welcome to News Cozumel!
New Immigration Laws
Ayeee caramba! The entry permits have change; there are now various
categories you can be placed in for entry permits, some DO NOT ALLOW
EXTENTION OF TIME.
If you are coming in to live you are given a certain entry and have less
than a month to get the application filed for your Fm3.
You can't just walk in as before for applications and renewals. You must
enter:
http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php/page/tramites
This site is in Spanish, although there is an English button to click
that takes you to section in English that you click on to identify what
it is you are attempting to do. Once you click on the appropriate
description of your status, it takes you back to Spanish.
In many hours of playing with the website, I did get to the form we are
to complete on line and print out. We still require the letter, the
translated proof of income, copies of the passports and FM3/FM2. THE
PICTURES ARE NOW INFANTILE SIZE IN BLACK AND WHITE.
It is my understanding once you have all this together, immigration will
give you an appointment to start your process.
I sent my mother's initial application to Monica Sauza Garrido (Telephone:
987-872-5394) and will be doing the same with my husband's renewal due
this month. Since we are moving July1st, I will probably have her renew
mine and Sharon's as well.
Great news, we will have cards instead of the passport type booklets. I
wonder if they will be green. (Inside joke, I held an American Green
Card for 45 years!).
As I learn more, I will pass it on. In the mean time I suggest you visit
your favorite “Monica” if your renewal is due anytime soon.
The 4th Sacred Mayan Crossing the reenactment of Mayan pilgrimage from
Xcaret (mainland) to the Island of Cozumel and back took place May 20
-23rd Due to the weather, and inability to have handicap accessible
parking, I was unable to attend. However, for my readers, I am taking
great pains to translate the ritual that took place for you, here is
part one of three:
SUCCESSFUL RECREATION OF THE MAYAN
RITUAL IN HONOR TO GODDESS IXCHEL
Part One of
Three
Under a warm spring night in the beach of Caletita in Cozumel, the
millenarian ritual carried out itself with great success. Mayan natives
of south-east Mexico consulted the oracle of the Ixchel goddess. Diverse
pre-Hispanic dances were performed with 118 participants of diverse ages.
Having a pyramid like scene recreated for this important occasion that
was flanked by the Caribbean Sea, Municipal and State authorities
enjoyed the staging of the consultation of the oracle of Ixchel. All
began shortly after eight with the welcoming of many representatives of
the Island of Cuzamil, “el Halach Winik.”
In conjunction with lighting the pyramid like structure the torches of
the canoeists were lit to receive Ix Chebel Yax, the old goddess of the
Moon, of the Divine, of the Hurricanes, of the Fertility and Mareas,
that was represented as a figure with loose gray hair holding an
inverted jug in one hand and a walking stick in the other.
With music produced by pre-Hispanic instruments the dance of the mothers,
the givers of life, began. Older women carried full pitchers of water
and with smooth and rhythmical movements danced to receive Ix Chebel Yax.
The pregnant women with jícaras in the hands receive this vital liquid
that is sent to the air on numerous occasions like a symbol of joy.
Before the glance of Ix Chebel Yax, on one of the platforms bordering
the stage, a group of children entered playing, running and executing
movements that represented diverse animals, simultaneously young women
with baskets and on their knees scattered petals of flowers around them.
Next on the highest part of the pyramid appeared figure in blue (the
fifth color) the color of the ritual, which imitated dance evolutions
that recreated the liberation of young Ixchel, soon they danced to the
canoeists mixing themselves among them.
I am certain you will all be at the edge of your seats waiting for my
translation of the rest of the ritual!

IMSS Medical Insurance
By popular request I revisited the Social security Clinic/Hospital on
30th and met with a Mr. Marte Alejandro Cruz Ventura. IMSS Medical
Insurance is available to foreigners holding an FM3 or FM2 Visa. THE
INSURANCCE IS OFFERED FOR FAMILIES ONLY. (Husband and wife, or parent
and child). The documentation they require must validate the
relationship of the two applicants. The cost is quite low, although it
has risen since last year. You will need:
ORIGINAL Birth certificates
ORIGINAL Marriage license
CURP Card
Proof of residency (Utility bill etc.)
Copies of you Visas
Copies of your passports
Two infantile size pictures in color
They require the birth certificates and marriage license be translated
by an approved translator.
NEW: They require you present all the above documents before giving you
the medical questionnaire. Depending on the medical questionnaire
results, they might require a physical exam prior to approval. Coverage
of pre-existing conditions is complicated, but if you are approved, you
are covered:
The first six months there is no coverage. The second six months only
minor things such as colds are covered. The second year everything is
covered except broken bones and orthopedics.
The third year covers everything including medication as long as you get
them from IMSS. You will not be reimbursed for drugs purchased at other
pharmacies. The drug benefit is the only negative I have heard, as they
are many times short of medications.
The Annual rates Per Person for 2010 are as follows:
Ages 0-19 $1,265.10 Pesos
Ages 20 39 $1,478.60 Pesos
Ages 40 59 $2,210.10 Pesos
Age 60 and up $3,325.70 Pesos
I have copies of the medical questionnaire in ENGLISH. I have also
signed up to be a volunteer translator at IMSS.
A common misconception on this Island is that since we are a small
community, everyone knows what is going on. Many times I find out about
events after the fact, most of the time at the last minute and too late
to pass on the information to you.
I receive notices from the Cruz Roja Cozumel, Casa de Cultura Cozumel,
Woman's Breakfast Club, and Game Night Club. Please make certain I am on
your mailing list and contact me for all special events so I may better
serve our community.
